What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a combination of Psychotherapy and Hypnosis. The Psychotherapy in itself is extremely beneficial and can help to make lasting change. These benefits are enhanced further with the addition of Hypnosis, which facilitates the subconscious mind to make beneficial changes.
What to expect:
Contrary to popular belief, hypnotherapy is not something that is ‘done’ to them. Where the client explains their issue to the hypnotherapist who then simply hypnotises their problem away, as if by magic. It would be amazing if this was the case, but this is simply not true.
The key to Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is understanding that in order for change to happen, you have to want change to happen. You need to be prepared to take the necessary steps to facilitate these changes. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a tool to help you and to guide you through making these changes. Your future is limitless and you absolutely do have the power to change! You just need to believe that you can!
The initial consultation is designed to find out what it is you want to achieve and to explain how hypnotherapy can help you, as well as discussing how many sessions you are likely to need. As a guidance, it could take 6-12 sessions, possibly less, possibly more. Everyone is different. The Initial Consultation also includes an informative explanation into the working of the brain in an easy and visual way so that you can understand why it is you are feeling the way you do and what we can do to help you to take the steps forward you need in order to achieve your desired outcome.
Subsequent Solution Focused Hypnotherapy sessions involve Solution Focused Brief therapy, as well as Hypnosis. During the first half of each session we’ll discuss the progress you have made, and I’ll be encouraging you to focus on the positives, focusing on solutions rather than dwelling on problems. I will then help you to imagine your desired future, a future where you have a more useful perspective on the quality of your life. I’ll then guide you into a relaxed state of hypnosis so that we can optimise the benefits from the positive discussion. This is your time to switch off and to relax.

As the name suggests, it focuses on solutions for the future, rather than analysing problems of the past. If you are willing to make changes to the way you think, the therapy can be highly effective in relieving the symptoms of anxiety and stress.

- Identify where you want to be and what you want your future to look like.
- Help you to make the necessary changes to get you to where you want to be.

The type of Psychotherapy I practise does not involve analysing problems or previous bad experiences from the past. If you have experienced painful. memories, we will acknowledge that they happened and then help you get from where you are to where you want to be.
What is Hypnosis like?
We all go into a state of hypnosis in our everyday lives.
Have you ever driven home and not remembered anything about the journey, or been so focused on a book or tv programme and not been conscious of time passing? If so, you’ve been in a state of focused attention, which is similar to the feeling of being under hypnosis.
During hypnosis, you will be guided into a similar relaxed state so that your subconscious mind will be more able to take onboard the beneficial; suggestions which are made during the trance, thus optimising the likelihood of being able to make change happen and to move forward in a positive way.
What Hypnosis is:
Hypnosis is simply a state of focused attention. In this relaxed state, your mind is more responsive to suggestion. In a therapy setting, the suggestions are designed to be beneficial to help you change unhelpful thought patterns.
Clients often comment that hypnosis feels relaxing and is pretty similar to daydreaming. You can often hear everything that is being said whilst in a deeply relaxed state. In fact, you could think of it as guided daydreaming.
What Hypnosis isn’t:
Contrary to the image portrayed in films, books and the media, Hypnosis does not involve the therapist taking control of your mind – no one can Hypnotise you against your will. You will not be ‘forced’ to cluck like a chicken I promise!
Nobody can make you do anything you do not want to – your subconscious mind will simply reject any suggestion that is inappropriate for you. This is why Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is such a safe and effective form of therapy.
